I have a niche website I had started as a hobby and a source of generating passive income. It is a website/blog based on the niche keyword “Alpha Man” and my target audience is supposed to be men between the age of 21- 35. Apart from installing wordpress and posting a few outsourced articles I haven’t given any attention to the website till now. The website was built 2 years ago and till date there are only 1 or 2 visitors every month and sometimes one of them would be me checking to see whether the website is still up and running.

I recently stumbled upon an article by Peep Laja in OkDork on how to grow a blog to 100,000 visitors in less than a year. So I thought, why don’t I try the techniques mentioned in that article to grow my niche website. After all, I don’t have much to loose right?

I don’t have much experience in writing compelling blog posts and website marketing. But I don’t want to spend hundreds of dollars on outsourcing content and purchasing ads or social media followers. So the challenge would be to generate quality traffic to my niche website while handling both the content generation and marketing of the site.

I know it is not going to be an easy task. But I want to prove it to everyone, including me, that you don’t have to spend awful lot of money in order to bring visitors to your website. If I could do it, then you or anyone with enough determination could pull this off.

I often hear people saying you should be passionate about the topic you are choosing to blog about or else you will give up at the first hiccup. I think that is incorrect. You can be passionate about something and still end up throwing away the towel when the going gets tough. Or more importantly you might not be as passionate, as you are now, about something 1, 2 or 5 years down the line.

So what you need is DETERMINATION.

When you have strong determination that you are gonna make something happen, then you will stick to it even in the wildest of storms. You won’t be discouraged when everything falls apart and will have the mental strength to keep on grinding even if it means starting from scratch.

So the challenge I am giving myself is to take my website from 1-2 visitors per month to 100,000 visitors by the end of this year. So it leaves me with 9 months to achieve it gigantic feat. I would not be sharing the name of my website because I don’t want to generate non-targeted traffic to my website. But more importantly I don’t want someone spilling water over months of my hard work just for the sake of for their amusement.

I would be updating you with the progress of my niche website and also the tricks and marketing strategies I would be using to promote it. I would try to be as frugal as possible and would spend money on things that are absolutely necessary like newsletter delivery service or membership at some forums or websites related to my niche. If I am given the option to choose between a free and paid option and if the free version solves most, if not all, of my problems, then I would choose it, eyes closed.

Even if I don’t achieve the goal of 100,000 visitors a month by the end of this year, I would still be happy with even a 10% of it. Something is better than nothing, right? But I will give my 100% to the task in hand and now I feel obliged to attain that goal. Else I would’ve failed you.

If you have ideas, tips or resources that would help me in my challenge I would like to hear about it. Please share it in the comments below.
